100-9075-6001. City of Churches. Hdle obv. The subject of this historical spoon is “the old in contrast with the new.” The legend in raise letter upon the handle “Breuckelen 1667, relates to the charter granted in 1667 to certain individuals named therein, to incorporate the village of Breuckelen. The old Brooklyn Church (in the bowl), a pioneer for the “City of Churches.” Which stood upon what is now known as Fulton Street, between Bridge and Lawrence Streets, in 1776, is an exact reproduction of that quaint old church building.
Hdle rev. The Fulton Ferry scene of 1746 (handle reverse) is also an exact reproduction, showing the old ferry landing very near its present location at the foot of Fulton Street. And the method of crossing the East River. In contrast with the old ferry is the Brooklyn Bridge, opened to the public in 19883. The view if at an angle from the New York side, and is an excellent miniature reproduction of the bridge and river scenes. [Information Source: James Catalog].
