Peter Stuyvesant served as the last Dutch Director-General of the colony of New Netherland from 1647 until it was ceded provisionally to the English in 1664. 9075-0415-Gilded Souvenir Spoon Milan enameled Cathedral Flag of Milano. Hdle obv. embossed rosette at finial + “Milano” on white enamel + Flag of the city of Milan (red cross on white background) + 2 rosettes + decorative stem. Entire spoon = gilded. Hdle rev. plain. Bowl: enameled “Duomo” (cathedral) of Milan; bowl outer rim = framed by tiny white enamel diamond shapes alternating with red enamel circles. Enamel =mint condition. On the left side of the Duomo there is a partial view of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuel, a huge glass-roofed shopping arcade, with cafes and restaurants, designed by Giuseppe Mengoni in 1861 ad constructed between 1865 and 1877. Formed like a Latin cross, the longer arcade is 643 feet in length; the shorter arcade is 346 feet in length. MK: two maker marks (unidentified). Metal: gilded + depose. Length: 5 inches. MB: $49.00
9075-0416- Silver (800) enameled Cathedral Milan City Madonna Statue. Hdle obv. embossed triple feathered helmet at finial with decorative scrolls holding an enameled shield with the flag of the city of Milan (red cross on white enamel background)+ decorative stem. Hdle rev. plain. Bowl: enameled view of the Cathedral of “Milano.” In the bowl some of the 135 spires rising upward from the roof are depicted — the tallest spire (356 feet) was designed by Francesco Croce in 1762; atop this spire is the polychrome Madonna statue designed and sculpted by Giuseppe Perego in 1774 and covered by goldsmith Giuseppe Bini with 3900 pieces of Goldleaf. MK: no maker marks. Metal: stamped (80[0]) (although only partially visible -final "0" = not clear). Length: 5 inches. MB: $49.00
9075-0417- Silver (800) Souvenir Spoon Milan Enameled Duomo Dragon. Hdle obv. triple feather helmet at finial with fancy decorative designs surrounding a crest with the Viper crest of the House of Visconti which became the symbol of the city of Milan. Decorative lower stem. Hdle rev. plain.. Bowl: matte finished three-quarter view of the Duomo. In the bowl of this spoon on the left side of the Duomo there is a more substantial view of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele than in previous spoon. The Galleria was named for Vittorio Emmanuelle II, the first king of the Kingdom of Italy. In 1877, a triumphal arch (Partially depicted in the bowl) was added at the southern end of the cruciform galley. MK: two maker marks (unidentified). Metal: stamped: 800. Length: 5 ¼ inches. 9075-0418- Gilded Souvenir Spoon Milan Piazza del Duomo dolphins. Hdle obv. embossed royal crown at the finial with enameled medallion representing the flag of Milan. A dolphin is depicted entwined around the lower stem. Entire spoon is gilded. The dolphin is derived from the famous dolphin gargoyle on the Duomo. Hdle rev. “Milano” = on the reverse of the medallion. Bowl: enameled view of the Piazza del Duomo: frontal view of the cathedral on the right side of the bowl; on the left is a full view of the arch entrance to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele and a larger view (pink structure to the right)of s 19th century city palatial/administrative building. In the gigantic central square in front of the Duomo is the marble pedestal on which was erected in 1896 the equestrian statue honoring Vittorio Emanuele II. MK: no maker marks.
