Quoted from the patent: "The figure is a perspective view of my design the leading features of which consist in the representation in the bowl of a public building, and the handle consisting of the representation of the standing figure of a man having in his hands a satchel and overcoat and standing upon a vertical scroll work reaching to the bowl of the spoon."
