Discover Greece — source of all art and beauty according to Isadora Duncan. Duncan was an American artist who revolutionized dance at the turn-of-the 19th century by embracing the art and culture of the Greeks. Walk in the temples, ancient city ruins and theatres. See the monuments, sculptures and vase paintings. Uncover the ancient civilization that has inspired artistic and cultural life of the West for two millenia.

Dance Origins: Isadora Duncan and the Ancient Greeks is a tour for dancers, teachers (at all educational levels), students and health-minded individuals who would like to enrich their lives with travel adventure while sustaining their physical condition. In a unique learning experience we will study first-hand the history, literature and mythology of the ancient Greeks combined with an immersion into the living dance technique and choreography of Isadora Duncan. The workshops in dance, lead by Lori Belilove, will include a general yoga and dance warm-up for everyone on the tour and will often be held out-of-doors when conditions permit. On site lectures will focus on the literature, mythology, art, archaeology of the ancient Greeks in order to bring alive the creative genius of Isadora Duncan and the ancient Greeks. Study materials and reading lists will be provided upon registration for the program; music tapes and videos can be ordered in advance to prepare you for the journey.

Site visits include: Athens, Corinth, Epidauros, Nauplia, Mycenae, Bassae, Olympia, Delphi, Sounion.

Isadora Duncan on the Greeks:

"The Greeks in all their painting, sculpture, literature, dance and tragedy evolved their movements from the movement of nature . . . the Greeks were the greatest students of the laws of nature, wherein all is the expression of un-ending, ever-increasing evolution . . . The Greek gods were none other than the representatives of natural forces . . . therefore dancing upon the earth I naturally fall into Greek positions, for Greek positions are only earth positions . . . this is why the art of the Greeks is not a national art but has been and will be the art of all humanity for all time."
