Anaconda Mine - Butte, Mont. This souvenir spoon is 5 1/4 inches long. In the bowl is a bright cut image of the mining buildings (with famous its famous tall stacks which even in the 1880s polluted the air around Butte). The enameled handle has beautiful forget-me nots. Back of handle is finished with representations of leaves and golden rod(?). This spoon is in excellent condition and enameled flower are fine (with exception of the flower on left of the bottom three which has a slight chip on the top petal - noticeable only with magnifying glass). Marked STERLING; maker's mark Reed & Barton.

The Anaconda Mine in Butte, Montana was one of the largest copper mines ever found and in 1899 was the world's largest copper producer.. Butte is the home of "Copper King" Marcus Daly who teamed up with Rockefeller's Standard Oil Company to create the Amalagamated Copper Mining Co.
